Checkout Period and Renewals

You will need your library card number and PIN to checkout and renew materials.

Unless otherwise noted, all items check out for a three-week period. You may have up to 75 items checked out at any one time.

Materials may be checked out from and returned to any Gwinnett County Public Library location.

Items may be renewed as long as another customer has not requested the item and your balance does not exceed $25. You may renew through the library's website, by visiting a branch library, or by calling the automated renewal line at 770-822-5351.

Fees

If you choose to keep library materials longer than the loan period, your extended loan fee will be 20¢ per day per item.

Your account will be charged the replacement cost of an item if it is 45 days or more overdue.

Customers who have overdue materials receive several reminders:

  • 1st Notice sent at 21 days overdue
  • 2nd Notice sent at 28 days overdue
  • 3rd Notice sent at 37 days overdue

A bill will be sent if your balance exceeds $25.00. If the balance is not brought below $25 within 10 days after the notice date, the account may be sent to our collection agency and a $10.00 non-refundable fee will be added to the amount due.

For your convenience, you can now pay your fees online using Visa or Mastercard.

Personal Identification Number (PIN)

Your Personal Identification Number (PIN) was selected when you created your library account.

Your PIN is required to checkout materials, log into library computers, or discuss your account with staff.  You will need your PIN to access many of the library's online services, including online access to your account and telephone renewal.

If you have forgotten your library PIN, you may retrieve it in one of the following ways:

Holds or Requests for Library Materials

If there is an item you would like to borrow that is unavailable, you may place a request for it through the catalog, in the branch, or by

The library will hold an item for 7 days once it becomes available. You will be notified by email, telephone, or U.S. Mail, depending upon which was selected as the primary method of contact.

If the library does not own a specific book it may be borrowed, if available, from another library through
Interlibrary Loan
