On October 1, 1910, in the midst of a massive labor dispute, the Los Angeles Times building was bombed and the explosion killed 20 people. America's greatest detective, William J. Burns, hit the scene to investigate and uncovered a massive plot by labor activists who were eventually defended by Clarence Darrow and documented by legendary filmmaker D.W. Griffith. The trial pitted labor against management and the rich against the working class and brought out unethical behavior in both the prosecution and the defense.

Acclaimed author and investigative journalist Howard Blum has produced a gripping narrative that is, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, “A fast-moving, skillfully constructed account...cinematic in style.”
