Describe your educational background?
I will graduate with my Master of Library and Information Studies degree from the University of Alabama next summer. My B.A. is in German and Secondary Education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. During my junior year, I attended university in Germany. Go Vols!
What inspired you to pursue a career in the library?
I love working in libraries because I love meeting people from various backgrounds. Because we provide programs and services for lifelong learning, the library really is for everyone. I love helping people achieve their personal goals through visiting the library.
How would you describe your position to others?
My team and I work with all things related to the Learning Labs, which are spaces dedicated to creativity. Users can learn to make videos, record music, edit photos, sew, 3D print, use microcontrollers, and much more. I ensure that my team has the tools to provide training and assistance to both staff and our visitors to provide the best experience possible.
What do you enjoy most about your job at GCPL?
I love that no two days are the same when I come here. I can never predict who I’ll meet or what they are trying to create or achieve by visiting us. It’s never boring!
What is your all time favorite book?
Almost everything I ever needed to learn growing up was in a Judy Blume children’s book, so probably “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.”
What are 3 things you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy cooking international foods, riding thrilling roller coasters, and traveling. I’ve been to 39 countries so far.
What is something exciting about you that most people don’t know?
I’ve been an avid fan of the band Depeche Mode for 27 years. I know more about Depeche Mode than anything else in my entire life.
