National Library Shelfie Day is Wednesday, January 22!
Library Shelfie Day is a special day for book lovers to share their favorite books and showcase library shelves in a fun way. We encourage our co-workers and customers to take selfies with their most beloved library shelf at Gwinnett Library or at home, sharing their favorite books and genres on social media. Be sure to use the hashtags #libraryshelfie and #GwinnettLibrary and tag @gwinnettlibrary
How to Participate:
Visit a library branch
Whether you’re a frequent visitor or haven’t been to one in ages, come to one of our 15 branches. Stroll the stacks and find a book or section of shelves that speaks to you.
Take a shelfie
Smile really big and snap your photo! Show us your favorite book, author, or pick a shelf that makes a good background.
Post a shelfie
Share your shelfie with other book lovers using the hashtag #LibraryShelfie. This makes you a part of the community, and you can see what everyone else is reading by exploring the hashtag.
History of National Library Shelfie Day
Founded in 2014 by the New York Public Library, this event encourages people from all over the place to take and share selfies. The catch is that this isn’t just any self, but it’s a “shelfie,” which is a picture of yourself in front of a book of shelves at the library!
The goal is not just to get people to take a photo and share it but to remind the masses that every local library has access to thousands of books for adults and children, fostering a love of learning and reading.
Not only that, but libraries also typically offer access to other resources such as computers, movies, magazines, music and video games. Some libraries even have tools for crafting and sewing, button making, laminating and so much more.
National Library Shelfie Day is here to encourage a natural love of reading as well as garnering support for the local library!
